ARTS AT LOVETT

Creative Learning in Action

Promoting Arts Excellence

Atlanta is a vibrant hub for the arts—from filmmaking and music to live theater and visual arts—and Lovett is proud to be a part of it. The Fine Arts are essential to founder Eva Edwards Lovett’s philosophy of educating the whole child, and it shows: more than 85 percent of our students participate in our extensive fine arts offerings through the year. The Lovett Fine Arts Department promotes the development of student talent, both individually and collectively, while providing an education that fosters creative learning and excellence in the arts.

At Lovett, students engage in various offerings taught by nationally recognized artist faculty. Offerings include visual arts, instrumental and choral ensembles, theater, stage design and production, broadcast, and dance. Through Lovett’s uniquely specialized honors-level Fine Arts courses such as Honors Visual Arts, Photography, Ellington Jazz Ensemble, Collegium Orchestra, Lovett Singers, and Honors Theater, Lovett Fine Arts distinguishes itself as one of the most robust independent school arts programs in the Southeast.

"The truth is that the arts at Lovett are unique. Students are taught by working professionals in all art disciplines. Sustained study in the arts is a crucial part of Lovett's philosophy of educating the whole child. It is challenging in the best way possible and teaches critical thinking, self-discipline, and introspection. It supports our students as they learn about how to give shape, form, and meaning to what they are experiencing every day as growing human beings. A Lovett arts education goes beyond the K-12 experience. It helps students to see their world and their lives with clarity. It fosters empathy and connections no other activity can produce. Graduates return to tell us how their arts education at Lovett changed them—both for their work and their daily lives—and prepared them for their future. The arts propel Lovett graduates into the world as the difference makers we need."
